VIDEO - The Science of Acupuncture
This BBC video starts with some initial but very basic exploration into what acupuncture is, then moves on to acupuncture in China (6.26 mins) and then looks into some significant clinical studies of efficacy (27.10 mins). The final part (41.13 mins) follows a basic research study where MRI scanning is used to see if needling of a point associated with pain-relief done using CM techniques shows any affects on parts of the brain associated with sensing pain. Here, an American practitioner gives a very general overview of a foundational conceptual framework within CM - Wuxing (translated as Five Phases, Elements or Agents). This concept was central in one of the early courses in the UK, and has been developed further through that college and its successors into what is know as the Five Element School. (5 mins)

Often translated as The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine, or the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon - this video explains of the significance and content of this foundational classic, the oldest copies of which date back to approx 500 BCE. It is a compilation of medical thought up to that time, setting out the flow of QI through twelve channels which are part of the organ system (zangfu), pulse-types, and much more. VIDEO - Shang Han Lun
The Shang Han Lun is one of the most important texts for understanding the progression of diseases through stages. The focus is diseases caused by cold pathogens. It takes one of the chapters of the Huangdii Neijing ( on fevers) as its starting point, and develops the pathological analysis, pulse and tongue diagnosis, and treatment, particularly through herbal formulas, to a very sophisticated level.
